MELVILLE, N.Y., October 5, 2016 – Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC), in recognition of the critical role that livestock veterinarians play in safeguarding the health of animals and humans, will launch the inaugural National Livestock Veterinarian Day on October 12. The observance serves to highlight the efforts of livestock veterinarians as they provide care for cows, sheep, pigs, and other large animals.
“Livestock veterinarians travel great distances and work long hours to protect the health of animals that play a critical role in our local communities and the nation as a whole,” said Fran Dirksmeier, President, Henry Schein Animal Health, North America. “From the work these animals perform, to the food, milk, and other products they provide, livestock health is deeply connected to our own. We at Henry Schein Animal Health created National Livestock Veterinarian Day to thank these dedicated health care providers for all they do to protect the health of animals upon which humans so heavily rely.”
The Company has created a webpage dedicated to National Livestock Veterinarian Day containing links to blog posts covering a range of issues related to livestock health and veterinarian-client communication, as well as a white paper that discusses the opportunities and obstacles facing livestock veterinarians.
In addition to the webpage, Henry Schein Animal Health will host a social media campaign on October 12 to demonstrate the Company’s commitment to supporting livestock veterinarians and educating its audience on the resources available for livestock veterinarians and their clients. Readers are encouraged to join the conversation using the hashtag #LivestockVetDay.
The creation of this national observance is the latest example of Henry Schein’s commitment to One Health. According to the World Veterinary Association, the One Health Concept recognizes that the health of humans, animals, and the environment are interconnected and depend on effective and sustained collaboration between varied professions and disciplines—both animal and human-focused—in the public and private sectors.
